Local flap reconstruction oncoplastic techniques based on the use of pedicled local flaps for the supply of volume from nearby tissues without using the gland itself when recruiting regional tissue donor areas adjacent to the defect will be required which in addition to those used for oncologic resection will generate new scars. Although muscle flaps serve the purpose of reconstruction attempts to reduce donor site morbidity led to the use of fasciocutaneous flap followed by perforator flaps these flaps preserve muscle function and reduce donor site morbidity which led to a new trend of reconstruction the same can be said for local flaps. Three types of local flaps will be described rotation advancement and transposition flaps all of these flaps are confined to head and neck facial reconstruction the advantages of the local flaps are their ability to provide vascularized color and texture matched skin for reconstruction. In this case a local flap might be used in surgery a skin flap is a term used to describe a piece of skin that is lifted and moved from one place to another crucially part of the skin remains attached to where it came from keeping blood flowing in and out of the skin to keep it alive
